Surrealism

          Realism is the confirmation of the truth that has physical existence.  Surrealism is something that resembles a dream as if it could not happen in real life.  When someone calls something surreal, they are calling it dreamlike or a fantasy, as if it could never happen on this planet.  The Surreal artist's visions came from their imagination and maybe how they see or wish to see the world.  They might have even portrayed how they feel through their images, like the first photo where a man is being pulled down by a rock, while at the same time being pulled up by balloons.  The man is being pulled in two directions, but seems to be staying in-between waiting to see which side will win.  This can be felt when someone comes face to face with a conflict.  The images take the viewer to a place not on this planet; a place where anything they fantasize can occur and a place where all of their dreams could come true.  Two surreal artists I find interesting are Vladimir Kush and Lucian Freud.  I find Vladimir Kush interesting because he puts several things that have nothing to do with each other together to make a beautiful, mind blowing image.  I find Lucian Freud interesting because he shows humans, animals, or plants in situations that are odd to understand the surrealism of, unless looked at carefully.

          The concept of this photo is kitchenware at war.  The three chefs are taunting the ice cream scooper by hanging it by its ankle over a tub of ice cream.  The chefs and the scooper are at war and the scooper is outnumbered in this case so he is now being hung over this tub.  This is surreal because kitchenware are not alive and they would never get into a fight.  This picture can resemble three villains hanging a man over a cliff to show who is the boss and who rules the "kitchen."  I achieved this end result by brainstorming how I could incorporate everyday utensils to depict a situation that probably happens more than we think.  I took a shoe lace and hot glued it to three spatula chefs.  I then took the other end of the shoe lace and tied it around on ankle of the ice cream scooper.  I then hot glued the green chef down so that it could support the weight of the scooper.  I then decided to place the chefs closer together to show unity of the villains and then put the camera closer to the chefs faces so that the viewer could see the smirks on their faces.

          The concept of this photo is oranges getting married.  The bride is walking down the aisle to her groom at the alter.  This is surreal because oranges are also not alive and they would therefore never get married.  The picture can resemble two lover birds in an emotional setting because they are so happy they can soon get to call each other husband and wife.  I achieved this end result by brainstorming how to incorporate food to depict an emotional and relatable situation that most have seen, heard of , or have gone through.  I took one orange, found a white bowtie, and taped the bowtie to the orange.  I then took another orange, found some white like, and taped the lace to the top of the orange.  I then found some foil and folded it to use as the carpet aisle and used a golden plate as an alter.  The most emotional part, in my opinion, is when the groom first sets his eyes on his beautiful bride, and that look they give and the rush of emotion running through them towards each other.  That was my inspiration for my camera angle because the tough exterior of the groom sheds for a little bit and he reveals some genuine emotion for his bride.
